Communion Preparation
- Method of distribution is always intinction for both Saturday and Sunday.
- Locate vessels and supplies in the sacristy.
- Use larger intinction wafers. They may be the only kind you find in the cupboard.
- Fill each of the darker colored chalices with wine about halfway full.
- Fill each of the lighter colored chalices with grape juice (located in the refrigerator).
- Saturday night fill one bowl with wafers.
- Sunday fill two bowls with wafers.
- Place a large celebrant’s host on top of wafers in one bowl.
- Put a small amount of wine in the taller (celebrant’s) chalice and drape a purificator (a square linen napkin), folded three times lengthwise, over the top of the chalice.
- Make sure there are gluten-free wafers in the small silver container.
- Place all items on the credence table (as shown below):
- Chalices on the four corners of the table.
- Place a pall (linen-covered square) over the top of each chalice after carrying to the chancel. This prevents spilling wine onto the palls, which are very hard to clean.
- Celebrant’s chalice, bowls of wafers, and gluten-free wafers in the center of the table.
- No pall is placed on the celebrant’s chalice.
- After the service, remove all items from the credence table and wash and store them in the sacristy.
- Notify one of the pastors if the supply of wafers, wine, or grape juice seems to be getting low.
